P90X Plus is strictly for P90X graduates. You must have completed at least one cycle of P90X before taking on P90X Plus. First of all, P90X Plus is hard, the workouts are intense and move along at a really fast pace. The workouts are shorter, around 45 minutes each but don’t let that fool you into this being a walk in the park. Most of the exercises comprise of timed supersets, moving away from the 8-10 and 12-15 rep rule using in the original P90X.
Generally speaking, P90X Plus can get you really ripped. Focusing more on total body movements and using workouts like upper body + and total body + focuses on fat loss and increasing your metabolism even more than P90X.
P90X Plus is an extension of the original P90X system. The introduction of new exercises and workout system is a welcome change from the original. The new disks comprise of;
- Upper Plus
- Total Body Plus
- Kenpo Cardio Plus
- Interval X Plus
- Abs/Core Plus
The classic version of the workout again comprises of a 90 day schedule. Over 90 days, it’s a bit repetitive doing upper body plus twice a week. I like structured workout routines to occupy both mind and body, all0wing my whole being to be poured into each workout I perform. 90 days of performing upper body plus twice a week has potential to give you great results, but can you ‘bring it’ 100% to the same workout over and over again? If you can then I salute you, but the jury is out on whether most people can do this.
DVD details:
- Upper Plus - A fantastic workout, targeting your entire upper body and hitting it HARD!
- Total Body Plus – An excellent full body work out. Think of Core Synergistics on rocket fuel!
- Kenpo Cadrio Plus – I personally find this workout to be fun, albeit a bit clunky. The moves could flow better but once you get used to them they are fun to perform. At the time of doing this I was in great shape anyway, but I have certainly done harder cardio workouts before. This feels like more of a recovery week workout to me.
- Interval X Plus – The infusion of interval training lacking from P90X. A very good interval workout, this is more like the level of cardio I expect from a Beachbody product. This one is right on the money and more like an Insanity workout.
- Abs/Core Plus – This is a good varied ab workout, but it doesn’t flow as well as Ab Ripper X. You perform moves in blocks of 4 different positions. Using pull-up bars is a good addition. The emphasis here has been on trying something different and I applaud that from time to time. Maybe I’ll get better at this one but I get a better burn from some other more simplified ab workouts.
