I may have mentioned in previous posts this week that I’m currently on a two week break with my family. We went abroad earlier in the year and decided to base ourselves from home for our two week break. This is largely down to my eldest daughter being privileged enough to have been selected to go and see various Olympic events down in London next week. Needless to say this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one we can’t let pass Olivia by. Being based from home has other benefits too…..not least that I can continue on my beastly progress path! It may be down to being off, but I’m feeling philosophical and very happy at the minute. Time to reflect sometimes does us the world of good. I’m one of those 99% positive guys most of the time anyway. Some people may find this annoying but it’s how I choose to live my life in much the same way as people who choose to moan their way through life. It’s our choice. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t paper over the cracks of life’s problems, In fact I face them head on. I guess remaining positive gives me the energy to blast through Body Beast workouts and maintains my boundless sense of drive and determination. Other people may find these attributes annoying, but I use them to my advantage and consider them to be assets….remember, always positive! ;-P Anyway, enough of my ramblings. Onto the workout and training progress. Again I assembled my workout area before pushing play, also writing down my target weights based on the last chest and triceps effort. I upped the weights marginally here and there, but simply [...]
Ross – End of Week 1 – Beast Build – Chest and Tris
Yesterday wasn’t the best preparation for the workout, a day out in London with the boys to watch the road cycling followed by consummate amounts beer and gin. However, I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of taking on the beast. Plenty of water before bed, a bit of a lie in, some ibuprofen and a dose of Jack3d and I was back in the zone. On day 7 you tackle the Chest & Tris workout for the 2nd time so you know what you’re up against, understand the pacing and can focus on the workout a little better rather than having to pay close attention to Sagi on TV. Most of my weights went up this time, which I’m pretty pleased with. I took a conscious decision to drop the weight slightly on the tricep kickbacks in order to get a better contraction at the end of the movement and felt the burn in my tris much more as a result. I do find that, due to pushing so hard on the dumbbell moves, the finishers of decline pushups and tricep pushups are a real struggle. I’ve yet to manage a full complement but I’m sure that’ll come. Feeling good now, enjoying the journey, now need to devour some food…
BB – Day 1: Chest and Tri’s (Han A)
The best workout you could do is the workout you WILL do…. Well, holy frigging moly…I defo did that workout! And LOVED every moment of it I might add, my arms are still slightly shaking and I finished 3 hours ago. Day 1 of “Lean Beast” in the bag! YESSSSSS!!!! It’s always tricky when doing a workout for the first time, lots of trial and error with weight selection, watching what’s going on to make sure you do it right etc etc. And, with Sagi going at a fairly speedy pace (obv’s as he’s doing super and giant sets) I did have to pause a few times so I didn’t get myself into a flap! So what did I like and not like… The Good… It’s a great speed, although not too fast and I felt I generally had enough time to sort myself out. I also think I’ve slightly fallen in love with Sagi Ok, I do love Mr Horton but Sagi is comic in a very different way. Slightly confused me at first when he was referring to himself in the 3rd person, but I defo felt he was motivating me to push on through and eak out that extra rep (even though I thought my arm was gonna fall off!). The Bad… My form! I did the workout on a stability ball as the bench we bought (so Nick and I could have one each) does not have an adjustable back rest…doh! It will be going back tomorrow and we will be purchasing one that I can move up and down as needed. I was wobbling left right and centre, seriously I was swaying around like I was out at sea! (Ok, [...]
