Week 2 of Body Beast draws to a close after another epic trashing of my back and biceps. I normally leave it until a bit later to post each day’s journal so I’m still ssssshhhaaakkkiiiinnnnggggg!!!! I probably haven’t calmed down either so please forgive this post if it makes no sense at all!
It’s actually our anniversary today, we were out last night and the kids are staying at their grandparents house….so you think we’d have a lie in and relax right? HELL NO!! Not when a Beast back and biceps workout is on the schedule! It’s as important to look and feel good for my wife today as it is any other day. That’s another good reason for getting it done early in the morning. We can enjoy the rest of our day now. The rest of the day will seem serene now that I’ve unleashed my wrath in the gym. Although I do plan on spending some of it watching the Olympics!
On to the workout itself. All weights were up and right now my guns feel HUGE. Of course the deflation will set in before long but they are so pumped it’s unreal. I’m increasing the weight considerably on the rowing moves. I love the rowing moves as they add the thickness and depth right across your back. The workout includes pull-ups too but this workout feels like a great all round fusion of back movements. The P90X back workouts are great too but you feel like you’re living on the pull-up bar, hanging there like a monkey throughout the workout! I’m hoping this adds depth to my back. When you do the pull-up moves in this workout it’s at the end of doing heavy rows so your muscles are pre-exhausted. I only managed 8 chin-ups on the final set of those.
I found it really tough to up the weights on the bicep exercises again, but I just about managed. Even if I up the weight and manage 3 reps, I’m quickly dropping down to finish off the prescribed amount of reps in total. In other bicep workouts I’ve managed to curl 22.5kg, 25kg and even 30kg dumbbells but during this workout the heaviest I could go was 17.5kg. I’m sure the bulk arms workout will allow me to hit my biceps fully without the pre-exhaustion of doing back first. Nevertheless, because of back the pump and effectiveness of this workout is no doubt insane! It’s overall balanced shape and size I’m after and Body Beast seems just about right in terms of progression and phases of attack on each muscle group.
Beast out……but he’ll be back again tomorrow. Whatever it takes!
