Now THIS was a back workout. I really like the setup of this one. It’s barely half an hour long but that is definitely enough. Back is one of my favourite body parts to train and this workout certainly didn’t disappoint me. It’s also a very different set-up to other Beachbody back workouts which primarily focus on doing as many pull ups as you can. Bulk back uses more rowing movements to add thick depth and power throughout your back. Pull-ups are still evident, but they are not the mainstay of the workout. I managed to go up to 34kg dumbbells with good form. The weights I used were just about spot on apart from the reverse rows. On the way up I used 38kg, 42kg and 46kg and just about managed. On the way back down I had to drop to 38kg, 34kg and 30kg just to ensure I maintained good form. I don’t include the bar in these weights, just the plates. I don’t know how much my EZ bar weighs, perhaps around 8-10kgs.
Can I be forgiven for thinking of the token set or two of abs at the end of each workouts as a bit of a relief? After mashing one body part non stop as soon as you flip to another one it’s hard to think of it any other way. I still maintain good form and ensure they work but all the lactic acid is clearly in the part of the body you’ve just trashed.
Can I also be forgiven for the stereotypical excitement that courses through my veins at the thought of doing bulk arms tomorrow? Yes, they are trophy muscles, yes you have to think of your entire body as one and your arms are a relatively small part of that…..but let us enjoy ourselves too right? The enjoyment I receive from a good arm blast is at the top of the tree for me, so there!
I have a tape measure in my gym which is rather vain but I do like statistics. On Monday I took an arm measurement before and after bulk chest and they were more than an inch bigger after the workout!! I know it’s no great surprise that they are bigger down to the blood flow and pump etc but I was rather surprised at just how much bigger they were. The measurement reading is one I would like to become my arm size to be before a workout by the time I’m through this round of Body Beast.
Day 24 down and the Beast wagon is gathering pace. Who knows where it will stop and what sort of numbers and aesthetics it might unearth?
Beast out.
