Posted by pvincent on July 27, 2010 at 11:00 pm

Free weights are great for building muscle as everyone knows. But what kind of muscle do you want to build, lean slender muscles or big bulky muscles? You need to go about it differently. Also did you know that lifting weights can also help you lose weight? Well I tell you how to do that as well.

One of the reasons that weight lifting helps you lose weight is because muscle weighs more than fat so the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn throughout the day. The best types of exercises to do for this are called compound exercises which work multiple muscle groups at the same time. These are exercises like the bench press, dead lift, dips, pull ups etc.

I’m going to give you two different all over body workout programs based on what your goals may be. If you want to melt fat like a stick of butter in the summer sun as well as build endurance you will be using the kettlebell workout. If you want to build maximum strength you will be using the barbell workout.

i want to get defined muscle. I am 15 and wanting to get jacked for football and looks. i have weights but i dont really know any routines. plz help!

Best reply by thrussn:

If you want to get ripped, as in not big, but very defined muscles, you’re gonna want to do lots of reps with low weight(not ridiculously light though) for bicepts tricepts, ect. Plus do a lot of pushups and situps/crunches. Include long distance cardio to burn fat to expose your muscles. Getting ripped is all about the reps bro
